Yesterday in our backyard there was a bunny v. hawk (or owl) situation and I am happy to report that the bunny won. Probably.

Hot tipper Grammy spotted the action while she was doing some yard work in the evening. That is how ladies with grown children roll, they can do activities they enjoy at their leisure in the evening-or whenever they want to. We were hunkered down in the house watching Toy Story 3/making dinner. Grammy burst in and pointed us to the back yard, where the large bird of prey (like I said, either an owl OR a hawk) had it's wings over the bunny. I was scrambling to put the memory card in the camera, keeping my eye on the action. Ada was totally engrossed in Toy Story 3, she has only seen it 20 times so it makes sense that she couldn't look away. Something distracted the hawk (we'll just say hawk) and the bunny leaped into the air and ran, ran, ran for the woods. The hawk flew away, and if I can assign it some human feelings here, I'll say it was disappointed. If it had arms instead of wings it would have punched the air in anger or thrown a stick or something. It flew off squawking, "I'll get you my pretty!". Grammy and I were pretty excited so see such titillating nature drama going on in our own yard.

Front yard Mother bunny/Baby bunny combo

I've seen The Lion King, and went to middle school so I totally know about the circle of life, but when it comes to the bunnies in my yard, I want them to always win over the big birds. It is true that the bunnies all look the same and they are a dime per dozen, but there is a set of backyard bunnies who are always out there munching and pooping. I think it is the same two all the time, right?? When I was a teenager there was a one-eyed bunny who hung out in the backyard-are these his descendants. They have 2 eyes but I like to think so? There are a couple of regular front yard bunnies too-they are daredevils and hangout right by the front porch , in open spaces and only flee if people get really really close. I worry about those front yard bunnies. They hang out by the
St. Francis statue-hopefully that is enough.
So, in summary, Mother Nature is quite a lady. I am happy I had a chance to see the backyard bunny be victorious and that it is possible to watch it out of my window. Have a great day!
