A Good Day For Dogs/Our Family Falls Ill

Doctor Ada, do not make her mad
Today in the Murray home we are all sick. Well, Ada is not sick, she is bringing us empty cups of tea and yelling at us if we move and they tip. Maybe one day she'll be a nurse or a doctor.

It is a best case scenario for dogs because we are lounged on couches and chairs with nothing to do except be covered in warm blankets, moan pitifully and pet them. I like having a chance to cuddle with my dogs, recently they were banned from sleeping on our bed and relegated to their crates at night. Bedtime was my main opportunity for cuddling with them. Don't feel bad for them about the crate thing though, they like sleeping in the same crate together, even though 2 are available. Mickey used to get up and leave when Rocco tried to cuddle with him, and now he instigates crate sharing. So tender.

Also, they brought this upon themselves. The new policy would not be in place except they sneak out of our room at night to be naughty. My editor advised me not to get into the details of their naughtiness, because not everyone has a life so bathroom centered as mine and might find the full truth shocking. But lets just say their naughtiness doesn't have to do with goofing off with our electronics or trying on our clothes or playing too rough with Ada and June's toys while the rest of us sleep. I was resistant to the change for a long time, like a year, but Ken thought that listening for crying babies was enough responsibility in the middle of the night, we don't also need to keep an ear for naughty dogs. Ken encountered a particularly gruesome downstairs naughtiness incident last week which put an end to bedtime person/dachshund cuddling and unsupervised downstairs time for good.

Don't feel bad for me either, it is nice to stretch out at night and it is the new silver lining of being sick. The old silver lining was possible weight loss, but I can never remember-is it feed a cold, starve the flu?-I play it safe and feed a cold, feed a flu. Cuddling with Mickey and Rocco on the couch while I'm sick is easy and there are no rules to remember.

Holiday Letter 2010

2010 has been a great year
because instead of three Murrays, four are now here.

Juniper Carol was born on 4/22,
we think she was a highlight-don't you?

Grammy graduated college and her new house is done.
We miss her at home, but being neighbors is fun.

Ken lost 40 pounds, I gained 50.
Yes, lots of things were quite nifty.

On the 23rd of May, Ada turned 2.
We've found all the rumors about this age are true.

She delights us with her wit, confidence and heart.
She started preschool in the Fall and our walls are filled with her art.

June is so sweet and quick to smile.
She sits, crawls and cruises-a tiny baby for a little while.

She was born just in time for the wedding of Amy and Pat,
now we have two nephews, Ayden and Kylan, we're happy about that.

This summer we met at the Niederle's in Spannaway
for the Cousin 2010 with our cousins Gannaway.
Talents were shared and food was devoured,
Gran and Gramps were quite proud.

Weddings, dinners, cards and email-
sharing our life with you friend, we know we won't fail.
With blessings and triumphs to numerous to reason,
we wish you all a joyous holiday season.
